Yunnan Sports Event for Ethnic Minorities to take place in December
Xinhua 2018-11-26 11:52:28

The 11th Yunnan Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games will be held in Lincang, a city in China's southwestern Yunnan Province next month, organizers announced on Friday.

A total of 1,899 athletes from 18 delegations will compete in 131 traditional sports events and strive for medals from December 4 to December 13.

Swing playing, Crossbow shooting, wushu, wrestling, gyro playing, horse racing and dragon boat race are included.

"Yunnan Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games was first held in 1955, just as sports performances at the beginning." Li Zhenghong, the spokesman of organization committee said, "but now, the games have been doing great help to promote the development of Yunnan traditional sports. Rather than a competition for medals, the games are more of a happy gathering for Yunnan's ethnic groups." he added.
