China on Wednesday issued a white paper titled "China's National Defense in the New Era" which explains the practice, purposes and significance of China's efforts to build a fortified national defense and a strong military.

The main body of the white paper has six sections: the international security situation, China's defensive national defense policy in the new era, fulfilling the missions and tasks of China's armed forces in the new era, reform in China's national defense and armed forces, reasonable and appropriate defense expenditure, and actively contributing to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

The white paper is the tenth white paper on national defense issued by Chinese government since 1998 and the first comprehensive of such kind since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
