A member of the Dulong, one of China's smallest ethnic groups that mainly live along deep gorges of the Dulongjiang River in Nujiang Lisu autonomous prefecture, Pu Ertai never left Mudang village since she was born in 1914 because of poverty and rugged, mountainous roads that isolated residents from outside world.

According to Xinhua News Agency, China's Dulong ethnic group was lifted out of poverty as a whole last year, thanks to the ongoing anti-poverty campaign.

In 2014 villagers in the Mudang village were provided with newly built houses. But Pu Ertai didn't move into her new house because she was too old to move and the new house was not easy to reach for her.

A government working team helping villagers solve difficulties learnt of her case and helped Pu go down the mountain, take a car and move into her new house on Oct 18.

Pu is the oldest living Wenmian woman, or woman with a face tattoo, which is a tradition for Dulong women. There are only 19 Wenmian women left in Dulongjiang town, according to local government.

Local villagers said the tradition has many different explanations, including for beauty, a sign of the ethnic group or as way of avoiding pillage in old times.
