CGTN 2019-11-21 09:59:09

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent a message to Project Hope as the public welfare program marks its 30th anniversary this year.

The project was developed by the China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China. It aims at financing education for students in underdeveloped areas in China.

President Xi pointed out that Project Hope has been implemented for 30 years under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The initiative helps with social mobility, builds a bridge of mutual assistance and communication, and helps millions of impoverished teenagers realize their dream of going to school and growing up to be the pillars of society, Xi noted.

Project Hope has played an important role in helping China's poverty alleviation efforts, promoting educational development, serving the growth of young people and leading social trends, President Xi said.

He stressed that the future of the country depends on the healthy growth of young people. The Communist Youth League of China should do a better job in Project Hope, and strive to provide new support and new hope for young people, he advised.

The whole Party and the whole society will continue to pay attention to and support Project Hope so that the majority of young people can fully feel the care of the Party and the warmth of the socialist family, and strive to grow into builders and successors of socialism, Xi added.
