All counties and county-level districts in the Tibet autonomous region have been lifted out of poverty, which means the region has eliminated absolute impoverishment, according to local authorities, chinanews.com reported.

The Tibet poverty alleviation office on Monday announced that 19 counties and county-level districts have risen out of poverty, in a notice approved by the autonomous region’s government on Dec 9.

Previously, another 55 counties or county-level districts had also declared themselves out of poverty.

Now, all 74 poverty-stricken areas in Tibet have left behind poverty.

Due to complex natural and historic reasons, Tibet used to be the hard nut to crack in poverty alleviation. By the end of 2015, the occurrence rate of poverty in Tibet was 25.32 percent, according to the report.
