Yunnan: night falls and happy time begins

Night economy is a creative idea to make the night hours lively.

As the Covid-19 epidemic is largely brought under control in China, urban nightlife has returned to normal. In Southwest China's Yunnan province, economic activities at night feature eating, learning, entertaining, and more.

Yummy night snacks in Kunming

People in Kunming like going out for a night snack, which is followed by enjoyable walks or other socializing activities under the neon light. 

The night market on Nanqiang Street is bustling, where over 40 stalls are set up for the night consumers to have a good dining time. More stalls are set outside the shops for extra customers.

Every Friday night, Henglong Plaza has rooftop parties. By joining hands with merchants to hold promotional activities, the shopping mall creates more possibilities for consumption. Business hours are extended at the mall to have more quality services at night. 

At 12 p.m., the Yitouwu is selling barbecue of the Tokyo flavor. The business hours of Yitouwu lasts till 1:30 a.m., when waiters are in leisure wears to create a relaxing air for customers.

Learning makes a difference

At night, people in Yunnan join in reading clubs and training activities. They want to makes a difference and find new possibilities in their lives. 

The 28 Xinhua Bookstore branches in Kunming joins hands with the Fandeng book club in holding reading parties at night. In the future, they plan to benefit more readers, sharing knowledge via online and offline activities. 

The Elephant Bookstore holds movie-seeing during the evenings. Viewers can come and go freely during the show, and they can also enjoy the whole movie with a cup of coffee. The movies allow people to forget about their troubles and have fun. 

Some parents take their children to bakeries. Yuan Jiang, a clerk of W-Baking, said many children come to learn baking at night. As the urban life is getting faster, people tend to learn new skills at night. 

At night, let's keep moving

Nights in Yunnan vary at times. Apart from those eating or leaning at night, others in Yunnan also visit sports centers for a hearty sweat after work.

At the Henglong Plaza fencing center in downtown Kunming, fencing is appealing to office workers, teenagers and the mid-aged, who come to the fencing centers for a change. 

Gaining popularity among local folks, the riding club in Kunming promotes equestrianism through experience. Founded in 2016, the club has functioned as a good place for those favoring the equestrian culture. 

The 52-second karting club at the Joy City shopping mall features interchangeable tracks, making the race more exciting. Members of the karting clubs in Kunming are 20 to 45 years old. The club remains open until the early hours in the morning, holding a special 7-minute game to make the karters stay longer.

Most members in Taige boxing club of Kunming range from 18 to 40 years old. Busy with work in the day, half of the boxers exercise at around 8:00 p.m.. The club also provides special training courses for seniors and women.
